CASEnergy Applauds Discussion of Nuclear at CNN’S YouTube Debate

Statement by Patrick Moore and Christine Todd Whitman, CASEnergy Co-Chairs

WASHINGTON, D.C., July 24, 2007 – “The CASEnergy Coalition applauds the discussion of nuclear energy in the first official debate of the 2008 presidential election held by CNN on July 23. We commend Senators Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton for considering nuclear energy as part of the solution to our nation’s growing energy demand.

“Several videos submitted to YouTube centered on the energy debate, demonstrating the public’s awareness and clear understanding that our energy future is a critical issue facing this country. Additionally, CNN’s decision to include a favorable question on nuclear energy signals the growing number of Americans that support nuclear power and its ability to meet our rising energy demand while limiting the negative impacts on our environment.

“Addressing climate change is a serious issue globally and an important policy issue in the 2008 presidential election.  Nuclear energy can provide sustainable baseload power, without emitting any controlled air pollutants or greenhouse gases.

“We look forward to continuing to educate the American public about nuclear power’s role in meeting our future energy demands and in helping to combat climate change. The CASEnergy Coalition encourages all American voters to ask their candidates where they stand on nuclear energy.”
