What is Nuclear Energy?
When atoms split—or fission—they produce large amounts of energy, which is called nuclear energy. This energy is released in the form of heat. As the atom fragments hit other atoms, they also split, producing more heat. A nuclear power plant uses this heat to produce electricity.
